Issue
Mobile weighing hoppers, reaching up to 15 meters in height, are used for bulk material handling at ports. Without a reliable way to communicate operational status, workers on the ground and crane operators risk miscoordination.
In noisy, high-traffic port environments, it is difficult to detect when the hopper is moving, processing, or ready for the next batch—creating safety hazards and delays.
Solution
By equipping the hopper and crane with PATLITE’s SL signal beacon and WIO Wireless Control Unit, clear visual and audible alerts are transmitted in real time:
- Amber light warns personnel when the hopper is moving, prompting them to keep a safe distance.
- Red light signals that processing is underway, telling the crane operator to wait.
- Green light indicates readiness for the next batch, guiding the crane operator to proceed.
With WIO’s wireless connectivity (Bluetooth), the hopper and crane remain synchronized without complex wiring, ensuring both ground personnel and crane operators receive unmistakable, synchronized alerts. This improves safety, reduces accidents, and streamlines loading operations even under bright sunlight and high ambient noise.
